Successfully Treating Colic

Everyone has different degrees of knowledge with regard to everything, including anatomy and physiology. Some personalities are very dominant and some are very passive. Some mothers can have extreme hormonal shifts after their babies are born, making them very emotional, which in turn makes their crying child difficult to handle, as it causes the mothers severe emotional pain. If this is the case, fathers may want to consider being the ones to do the treatment in order to support the wife as much as possible. Babies with colic can cry for long periods of time and to very severe degrees. This is a very emotional time for the whole family.

Beginning treatment early can prevent these periods of crying because the longer the baby has colic, the more severe it becomes and the more pain and crying will incur. I have been researching and treating babies with colic for forty-one years and have spent hours and hours refining my technique in order to make it as effective as it is today. I can usually predict what will happen with each treatment, such as how many treatments will be necessary to give a baby relief from colic symptoms, what events will occur during the treatments, how far along the baby is in the treatment. In addition, I can tell you what else you might do to expedite the treatment.

Some babies will respond quickly while others take a little longer.  My experience has been for many years that if a baby has colic and there is no other disease or pathological problem present, the baby will respond to this treatment, meaning you should expect your baby to get well.

There are certain things that will change during the treatment, such as a breast-fed baby may need to be supplemented with formula if the mother is unable to produce enough milk. Other things, such as teething, allergies to certain foods, or formulas may change the speed of the treatment. You must understand that all babies are alike, however, each baby is an individual and will have different characteristics that can alter the speed of your baby's recovery.

Before beginning treatment, PLEASE REMEMBER THESE THINGS:
  • Patience is a must.
  • There will be ups and downs all the way through the treatment, however, your progress will move steadily forward.
  • You owe it to yourself and your baby to be patient.
  • You must follow the instructions carefully.
  • You must not change or alter the treatment.
  • You must not take any shortcuts.
  • The treatment must be done frequently.

Remember, colic can be a life and death issue. Colic has been proven to be the major cause of shaken baby syndrome. Start early with your baby and the risk greatly decreases because the crying gradually increases as the colic gets worse.
